My Bio:
I am New York City/Greenwich Village born but grew up in various states and
among a wide variety of family and friends. (uh, I am still growing up at an age old
enough to have two children one in their 20s.)

I have been involved in performance endeavors since I was five (tap dance class,
ask me to show you my “step-ball-change.”).  I am a bit of a ham, a bit of a control
freak and a bit creative. Just enough of each to make this work.

  • At 8 and 9 years of age I was on stage with the Joffrey Ballet as one of the
kids running around the stage in Petrouchka. I was not part of the company,
but I was part of the school having a blast (hated being on toe though)
  • In 4th grade I played Alice in Alice in wonderland.
  • In high school in Texas and New York City, I was involved in the technical
crew of every performance there was stage managing, running lights you
name it.  The performances ranged from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, to the
    musical Mack & Mabel.
  • I staged managed, ran lights and sound for performances for a couple of
years with the 13th Street theater in Greenwich Village.
  • While living in California I wrote for, stage managed and ran lights for The
California Original Theater Company in Sacramento.

The Workshop’s Bio:
Over ten years ago, I combined my interest and experience in writing, performance
and working with kids in camps as well as experience with my own children and
created a Fantasy Summer Stock camp program for the Creative Summer
Workshop in Scotch Plains, NJ.  When that wrapped up I revamped the program as
a weekly class for local recreation departments. It is now known as Theater For
Kids.

I continue to offer these workshops but have a love of involving people in creative
endeavors that don’t have to be huge and can still be fun and satisfying. I am now
offering a wider range of opportunities. That is what Theater For You is. There is a
part for all ages and all abilities.

Having personal, not professional, experience with neuro-typical kids and those
that are not so, I recognize the need for programs that embrace the strengths
each of us has. The performance opportunities I present ARE NOT Broadway
bound, although their participants certainly might be, that is not the goal. They are
designed to find a space and to put on a show, to accomplish something, to have
some fun and to show off to friends and family.

Along the way, the participants are encouraged and find the need to:
  • Communicate (clearly, expressively, effectively)
  • Listen (paying attention for cues)
  • Cooperate (if they do their part the show will be better)
  • Accomplish something (they all have a part in putting on this show and they
    know it)

The workshops and performances also provide more than an opportunity to put on
a show. They are something to look forward to, engage in, have an experience
with and maybe laugh about!
